Marin Portable Cooling
We size and deliver spot coolers, ducted units and heaters, set up the exhaust or ducting, and check the circuit so the unit runs without tripping.
Controlling heat and moisture on a Marin build
Marin summers near the coast are often mild, but inland towns like Novato, San Rafael and Fairfax can get hot, and a closed office trailer in the sun heats up fast. Winters bring cold, damp air that slows drywall mud, paint and flooring adhesive. Portable climate gear keeps the work and the crew on schedule.
Our cooling gear covers 1-ton through 5-ton spot coolers, whole-room ducted units, evaporative coolers for open shops and garages, and portable heaters for the cold months. Each one is sized to the space and the heat source, whether that is western glass, a room full of servers or a crowd of trades.
Cooling and heating units draw real power, so the circuit matters. Smaller spot coolers run on a standard outlet, while bigger ones need 208V or three-phase. We check what is available on your temporary service and can add a generator sized for the climate load during a PSPS event or before the meter is set.

Cooling and heating equipment
We carry a range of units so you can match the gear to the room and the season.
Spot coolers, 1 to 5 tons
Units on wheels that fit through a standard door. They cool a trailer, an office or an equipment room and vent through a window or ceiling.
Ducted units
Larger portable AC with supply and return ducts for whole rooms or open floors.
Evaporative coolers
Good for open garages and shops with airflow. They use water instead of refrigerant and work best in dry heat.
Portable heaters
Electric and fuel-fired heaters for winter work, curing and drying. Fuel-fired units need fresh air and clearance, so we go over placement with your foreman, and electric models are the usual choice inside an occupied home.
Dehumidifiers
Pull moisture out of damp air near the bay so drywall and flooring can dry on time.
Lighting and climate on one plan
Night crews inside a closed building often need both heat and light. We can plan string lighting for the interior and the heaters together so the circuits are not overloaded.
Spot cooler and heater rental cost
Most spot cooler rentals land between $250 and $700 a week, depending on size, ducting and how long you keep the unit. Heaters and evaporative coolers are quoted by the job.
- Unit size in tons or BTUs
- Ducted or standalone setup
- Power needs and any circuit work
- Length of the rental
- Delivery access and setup time
- Swapping between cooling and heat
Our price covers the week or the month plus delivery, setup and pickup. Electrical work, if needed, is listed separately.
How a cooling or heating rental works
1. Size the unit
We ask about the room size, sun exposure, equipment and people inside, then pick a unit with enough capacity.
2. Check power and exhaust
We confirm the circuit and plan where the hot air or condensate will go before anything ships.
3. Deliver and start up
We roll the unit in, connect the ducts or exhaust, start it and make sure the room is reaching the target temperature.
4. Service and swap
If the weather turns, we can swap a cooler for a heater on the same rental, or add a unit when the space gets busier.
5. Pick up at the end
Once the permanent HVAC is running or the finish trades are done, we drain the units, pull the ducts and take everything out. Any window kit openings get closed up before we go.
When portable cooling or heat pays off
Temporary climate control usually comes up when finish work starts or when a space has people or equipment inside all day.
Office trailers in summer
A small spot cooler keeps a trailer usable through a hot afternoon, protecting the computers and the people at the desk.
Drywall, paint and flooring
Mud, paint and adhesives cure on a schedule that depends on temperature and humidity. Heaters and dehumidifying units keep finish trades moving in winter.
Concrete and curing
Cold snaps can slow a slab or a topping. Check with your engineer about curing needs, and we will supply the heat to match.
Server and electrical rooms
When a building’s cooling is off during a remodel or a shutdown, a portable unit keeps networking gear, panels and the site’s internet equipment from overheating.
Occupied homes during remodels
When the HVAC is torn out, a family still living in part of the house may need a spot cooler or heater in one or two rooms.
Why crews rent cooling and heat from us
A spot cooler that blows its hot exhaust back into the room is worse than nothing. We plan where the exhaust goes and confirm the electrical before we deliver, so the unit cools the space and the breaker holds. On a remodel where the family is still living in part of the house, we also keep hoses and cords out of walkways.
- Sizing based on the room, the heat load and the use
- Exhaust routed through windows, ceilings or ducts
- Circuit checked by licensed electricians
- Heaters for drywall, paint and flooring in winter
- Condensate handled so floors stay dry
- Delivery and setup on steep or narrow sites
Questions about portable cooling and heat
How big a spot cooler do I need?
It depends on the room, the sun, the equipment and how many people are inside. Tell us about the space and we will size the unit.
Where should the exhaust hose run?
Somewhere outside the space you are cooling, usually through a window kit, a ceiling panel or a duct. We plan that route before delivery.
Can I plug a spot cooler into a regular outlet?
The smaller units, yes. Larger ones need a 208V or three-phase circuit, and we can install it. Running a big unit on a long extension cord from the house is a common way to burn out the compressor, so we would rather wire it right.
Do you rent heaters too?
Yes. Winter in Marin is cold and damp, and heaters help drywall, paint and flooring dry on schedule.
What happens to the water from a spot cooler?
The unit collects condensate in a tank or sends it out a drain line. We set it up so it does not end up on your new floors.
